...I LUV TO TOUR

He absolutely did not.

Touring with Michael Jackson sounds glamorous.

Stadiums. Thousands of people. Cities around the world. The biggest shows imaginable.

There was just one problem.

He hated touring.

THE STORY

In Michael Jackson’s Private Home Movies, Michael talks about what being on tour was actually like for him.

He loved performing.

He loved the audience.

He loved that moment of connection with the fans.

But the travelling, the constant moving, the exhaustion and the whole machinery surrounding a tour?

Not so much.

At one point he explains that he goes “through hell touring.”

Which is fairly clear.

MAKE IT POSITIVE, MICHAEL

Then someone apparently decides this description might need a slightly more promotional ending.

So Michael tries again.

He looks straight ahead and delivers, with spectacular enthusiasm:

“I love to tour.”

Everyone starts laughing.

And Michael immediately wants to know why.

Which somehow makes the whole thing even better.

WHY IT’S FUNNY

Because he knows.

They know.

We know.

And absolutely nobody in that room believes that sentence.

It is Michael attempting to give the approved answer while being completely incapable of hiding how he actually feels.

AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION

Michael disliking touring did not mean that he disliked performing.

Those were two very different things.

Again and again, he spoke about the connection he felt with an audience and how much performing meant to him.

What he disliked was everything surrounding it: the travelling, the exhaustion and the loss of normality that came with life on the road.

YOU HAD TO BE THERE

To anyone else, I LUV TO TOUR is just a sentence.

To a fan who has seen that moment, it carries the expression, the delivery, the laughter — and the contradiction behind it.

No photograph needed.

No explanation on the shirt.

Just four words.

And you already hear him saying them.

WHY IT BECAME A CODE

Because this is exactly what a CODE is supposed to do.

A tiny reference that looks almost meaningless from the outside.

But if you recognize it, an entire moment comes back.

CODE received.
